A Joyful Noise

Mary’s first concert was a rousing success! These 5th graders only started playing their instruments this past September and are well on their way to becoming seasoned band members. The band teacher has done a spectacular job! They demonstrated their warm ups, what notes they’ve learned so far, and entertained us with half a dozen or more tunes.

The chorus also performed. When the band was through, half of its members got up and joined the chorus. They all sang beautifully, too! I was truly impressed.

Something else that impressed me was that the parents in the audience behaved themselves. So often I am irritated by the fact that the adults tend to lose their attention and start talking and fidgiting in their seats. All those kids performing can see that. How disheartening it would be to see that, I think. But everyone seemed to be enjoying the performances and were all paying attention!

The weather that marched through here yesterday dropped some rain and the wind whistled through like a fast moving train, but we didn’t have any damage here in the neighborhood. Some people have to put their Christmas decorations up again, but all is really no worse for wear. There was a lot more weather issues north of here, I see from the news this morning.

Christmas is coming along too fast! I have to make a trip to the post office this morning, so I’d better get wrapping!
