School’s Out!

Mary could not be more pleased. Yesterday was her last day of school before the highly anticipated Christmas break!

Her teacher was only going to be at school half of the day, so they had their class party in the morning. We were volunteered to bring muffins, Bill took the day off to attend the shin-dig and we arrived just after the stroke of ten to join in.

The desks were arranged in a circle, the food was lined up on the cubbies that hold books and back packs and the kids were chattering away, anxious to get the show on the road!

Everyone brought a small gift appropriate for either a boy or girl. Mr. P had an altered version of The Night Before Christmas to read. Whenever the kids heard ‘left’ or ‘right’ they were to pass the gift in that direction throughout the story. It was so funny! He made sure everyone knew left from right before the reading began, but at times that didn’t help. We watched as gifts slid around the circle, desk to desk, and the faster Mr. P read, the more confused the kids got! It was fun, though. By the end of the story only one gift ended up in the owner’s hand and it was switched out with another.

Bill and I stayed for a little snack and to watch the gift exchange, then headed out to run some errands. We ran around all day! I don’t know what we really got accomplished, but something must’ve gotten done. Before I knew it, it was time to head back to school to pick Mary up.
